Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote human welfare. The Grand Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has a membership of over 200,000 predominately African-American, college-educated women. The Sorority currently has 900-plus chapters located in the United States, Tokyo, Japan, Okinawa, Japan, Germany, Bermuda, the Bahamas, Seoul, Korea, and St. Thomas and St Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The major programs of the Sorority are based upon the organization's Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: Delta's Five-Point Program; Economic Development; Educational Development; International Awareness and Involvement; Physical and Mental Health; and, Political Awareness and Involvement. The mission of theDelta Research and Educational Foundation (DREF) is to help strengthen and expand the charitable, educational and scientific programs of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and other organizations with similar community service goals. The Foundation’s programmatic areas include: Research and support service programs for Family Welfare; Research and service projects in Educational Development; and, Research and study programs to increase International Awareness, particularly in the African Diaspora and Caribbean countries. In the area of Family Welfare, DREF focuses on projects that identify and address family problems, particularly those confronting female-headed household. Aiming towards creating a better understanding of diverse cultures the Foundation presents ongoing programs related to International Awareness.
